My Boo

Listening to: I Knew I Loved You (Savage Garden)

Dear David

"I know that it might sound more than a little crazy, but I knew I loved you before I met you. I think I dreamed you into life. I knew I loved you before I met you, and I have been waiting all my life".

I may not have written those beautiful words myself but I mean every word of it.

You may not recollect the first time we met (because we never did), but I knew you're the one for me when I first heard you on someone's playlist on Imeem. The song was of course Always Be My Baby.

On first instance, I thought it was Edwin McCain. You know, the guy who sang I'll Be? I think that was the second song you auditioned, after Living On A Prayer...Honestly, I hope you'll pardon me for thinking it was him because I know mistaken identity isn't exactly fun, but in all fairness, you did sound like a lot like him...oh no no no, don't frown just yet, I sincerely meant that as a compliment. Oh absolutely! I love Edwin and have even gone as far as listing him as a potential guest performer at my wedding *smiling sheepishly* Oh well, don't mind a silly girl me. I like to dream. But to quote your 2nd song in the finale, "if you don't dream big, what's the use of dreaming", eh?

Personally, I think you did justice to my favourite Mariah song. Everything about how you went about the song was just perfect. I don't mean to be sexist but sincerely I never expect a guy to be able to sing a girly song like that, and you've done it to perfection.

You want to know something David? I believe in serendipity. Synchronicity even. And I think the way you and I are brought together is pretty serendipitious....

I used to watch American Idol when I was still home (home being Malaysia...heard of it?). I didn't manage to catch the first 2 seasons but I was pretty much glued to Star World when they broadcasted Season 3, in which Fantasia won. Soon after, I left for Cardiff to go to uni. I don't mean to thrash the Brits but they're not very into entertainment programmes from across the Atlantic, so folks like me rarely get a glimpse of US TV shows, AI being one of them.

So yeah, if I hadn't gone on to Imeem that fateful day, if I hadn't been so bored as to play other people's playlist, and if your Mariah cover wasn't on that random guy's song list, I wouldn't know you. I wouldn't have typed David Cook into Google, and I wouldn't have found you on http://www.americanidol.com/. I wouldn't have started watching AI again and this wouldn't have been written...pretty freaky huh?

Thanks to the technology these days, and the generosity of anonymous virtual samaritans, AI episodes could be found on the net and I have had the opportunity of following you and the other idol hopefuls on AI after the Mariah Carey week, up until your crowning on Wednesday!

Honestly, I think you did a great job with Music of the Night. I know Lord Webber was only joking but it is a sexy song indeed! Tell me, how did you approach the song? You sang it like you understood unrequitted love...do you?

Also, how does it feel to have Diane Warren give you a standing ovation for your take on I Don't Want To Miss A Thing? It was an interesting choice by the producers because let's face it, the rock ballad is already so good, it's hard to musically fine-tune but I kinda like what you did with it. The violin arrangements worked well, and again you've reduced me to jelly. Hehe.

And how can we forget the great U2 classic. And what an occasion to sing it too!

Speaking of the finale, I thought you did great. No doubt you surprised me with your last song choice, but it was nicely done man. It showed the sensitive part of you, which is really what I find appealing! I like your presence on stage, I really do. I like the fact that you sing your heart out, but that you do it with poise, and quiet confidence. You come across to me as a simple and humble man, one that is full of integrity and sincerity.

I've read quite a few interviews of yours and when asked to describe yourself, you said "a word nerd". Did you really mean that or were you simply spinning it for girls like me, who dig them?! I'm sorry but it's really hard picturing you as one, especially when you appear so cool on stage!!!
Remember how I was talking about synchronicity earlier? If your younger brother Andrew didn't try out for AI, you wouldn't have come as a moral support. And if you weren't there to be persuaded to take part, you won't be in the competition at all and certainly not have the "Time Of Your Life" (love the song btw, I play it every day). Life has a funny way of working itself out, don't you think?

Anyway, sorry this letter is getting longer and longer. I just want to say, I think you're one of the best AI winners of which I've had the pleasure of getting to know and love. I hope you will stay true to yourself in the midst of dizzying success, and I wish you ALL THE BEST.

Forever your girl

Ok, don't panic. I haven't lost the plot, I've just lost my heart (to him) hahaha! Oh come on, it was meant to be silly! Look here people, I HAVE TO trivialise my obsession with David Cook alright, otherwise I'll go nuts!
Actually, I'm already nuts so bring on the COOKie!
Rock on, DC!

Look at the COW(ell) at the corner...
